Japan’s leading companies are repositioning to compete in new ways in the global economy. First, there is a marked shift to a dominance of upstream portions of global supply chains, which increases trade dependencies in Northeast Asia. This shift requires now innovation streams at the technology frontier. Second, the DX brings new opportunities to revise business models and pivot into new product markets. Following an explanation of the “aggregate niche strategy”as a new global strategy of Japan’s largest companies, this presentation will discuss new “as-a-service”business models, such as in mobility, smart city, construction, etc., and what they mean for large company management innovation.
